Encounter: What’s next?
Benoit Chattaway, Catherine Leutenegger, Anna Konstantinova, Amelie Schüle.
I will be speaking at Photoforum Pasquart in Biel/Bienne on 25 October 2026. Together with photographer Catherine Leutenegger and curator Anna Konstantinova, I will reflect on how digital technologies are reshaping photography, image-making, and the ways we experience and share images.
The discussion is organised in collaboration with near. and moderated by Amelie Schüle.
Drawing on the archive of Domenico Quirici, a local photography pioneer from the 1890s, Benoit Chattaway’s Étiquette Bleuegoes beyond a historical rereading. The work explores how media infrastructures shape visual experience and the construction of the gaze, tracing a continuity between past visual forms and today’s image culture.
But what now, and what next? As digital technology becomes omnipresent and the virtual acquires material presence, the boundaries of photographic technique are blurring. How does this new way of producing images change the photographer’s reflection? And how do they echo in the way images are shown and shared, from the wall to the book to the screen? Is this a fracture or a continuation? What does the screen inherit from the printed page, and what does it invent?
Bringing these questions into focus, a discussion organised in collaboration with near brings together artists Benoit Chattaway and Catherine Leutenegger, alongside curators Amelie Schüle and Anna Anna Konstantinova. Each speaker will open with a personal perspective on these evolving image cultures, from the intimate decisions of making to the gestures and structures of showing. Their reflections will then spill into a collective conversation with the audience, before continuing over drinks.
Part of Encounters, a series conceived as a space for extension, the event invites artists to push beyond the exhibition itself and experiment with new forms of mediation—opening up fresh ways to encounter, question, and experience images.

EN. Commissioned by the Archivio Audiovisivo di Capriasca e Val Colla, “L’Étiquette Bleue” is a dialogue with the images captured by Domenico Quirici, a photographer who extensively documented Bidogno during the 1890s.
Starting from Quirici’s portrayals of rural life and landscapes, this project delves into the origins of photography as an industrial process. It underscores the physicality inherent in the medium, the distinct significance of the negative, and the pivotal role certain images play within a community.
Distributed throughout the village, the exhibition will feature a series of my own photographs sequenced with those captured by Quirici, showcasing a visual narrative that contemplates the dynamic evolution of communal memory.

IT.
